Step 2 was to list and sell our house.  We had no idea how long this process would take. Would it be a month, six months, a year? When our friends and family said “your house is going to sell so fast” we laughed it off and didn’t believe them.  We knew our house was special and we were happy that our friends and family agreed.  But were they just being nice saying that it would go fast?  I guess not! Within a week we had serious interest and in 10 days we had a cash offer!  That was fast! After the offer was accepted, we had to move a little faster on the purge.  The buyers were flexible with the closing date and they allowed us to choose it, so we gave ourselves a full 30 days. Within those 30 days we were actually going to be traveling to Florida for five days so that cut our time down to 24 days to finish the purge!  At the beginning the process was organized and systematic. But the last week it turned slightly chaotic as all of the “little things” and “last minute items” seemed to be multiplying!  We rented a U-Haul van twice and a minivan twice to haul things to the donation center, the storage unit, and the dump. Thinking you may have several months to a year to complete this process is not an overwhelming task. Completing it in 24 days is!
