Old Baldy

A fantastic option for a close day trip from Oak Island is charming Bald Head Island. Renowned for its natural beauty and serene atmosphere, Bald Head Island is a picturesque collection of pristine sandy beaches, lush forests, and peaceful marshlands.

One of the unique features of Bald Head Island is the absence of cars. Instead, visitors arrive via ferry and navigate the island on foot, by bicycle, or by electric golf cart, adding to the sense of tranquility and preservation of the island’s natural environment.

As the ferry approached the port on the day of our first visit, we were impressed by the exceptional beauty of the island and immediately felt welcome and relaxed. We had the honor of being hosted by a close friend’s parents on our trips to Bald Head Island. They treated us to a 2.5 hour “VIP” narrated golf cart tour of the island, lunch at the Bald Head Island Club, a lovely dinner at their charming island house, and a round of golf for Jim at the beautiful Bald Head Island Club golf course.

On our informative golf cart tour we stopped at the Bald Head Island lighthouse. If you’re looking to immerse yourself in the island’s history, a visit to Old Baldy Lighthouse is a must! Built in 1817, this historic lighthouse offers panoramic views of the island and its surroundings. For nature enthusiasts, a visit to the Bald Head Island Conservancy is highly recommended. This organization is dedicated to preserving the island’s unique ecosystem and offers educational programs and nature tours. You can even get hands-on experience with sea turtle conservation efforts.

Whether you’re seeking relaxation on the beach, outdoor adventures, or a chance to connect with nature, Bald Head Island is the place to be! And if you find yourself planning a day trip from Oak Island, don’t miss the opportunity to explore this hidden gem and create unforgettable memories in this beautiful coastal paradise.
