Charmed by Charleston

Charleston is the perfect destination for a weekend trip with a captivating blend of history, culture, and amazing restaurants. Since we are currently living in Oak Island, NC, Charleston is only 3 hours away, which makes it an easy weekend getaway.

One of the most iconic sights in Charleston is Rainbow Row, a row of 13 brightly colored historic houses along East Bay Street. As you wander through this walkable town, you’ll be enchanted by the gorgeous and charming architecture at every turn. We took so many photos on this trip! If you travel to Charleston, remember to visit the picturesque Pineapple Fountain, located in Waterfront Park, where you can relax and take in the serene waterfront views. We watched cruise ships sail in and out of port and saw countless sailboats dotting the shimmering waterfront.

When it comes to food, Charleston is a paradise for food lovers like us. From southern comfort food to fine dining, the city is renowned for its delicious cuisine. Whether you’re in the mood for a traditional southern meal or innovative culinary creations, Charleston’s vibrant food scene has something for everyone. We ate outside (thanks to our tiny furry friend) even though the temperature hovered between 55 and 60 degrees. We had lunch at Blind Tiger Pub in the brick-walled courtyard and brunch on the charming (and heated) back patio of Basic Kitchen. Our hotel was just over the bridge in Mt. Pleasant and we enjoyed delicious sushi along Shem Creek at Sunsets. We were treated to dozens of pelicans breezing past us down the waterway and Jim even spotted a dolphin swimming right by our table!

After indulging at the local restaurants, we took leisurely strolls through the cobblestone streets and soaked in the rich history and culture that permeates the city. Sunnie was not a fan of the cobblestone streets, but they add so much to the charm of Charleston. We window-shopped (and made a purchase or two!) at the quaint shops and boutiques on King Street where Sunnie was always welcome and enjoyed many pets and lots of attention! Traveling with Sunnie is quite entertaining–she is basically a celebrity! Although she likes shopping, Sunnie preferred sitting at a rooftop bar overlooking beautiful Charleston while sipping a water bowl “cocktail”. Of course we couldn’t let her drink alone!

We spent time exploring the area and drove through Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island to check out the amazing scenery and homes. All and all, we loved the Charleston area and can’t wait to return this Spring! With its captivating blend of history, delectable food, and picturesque surroundings, a weekend trip to Charleston is sure to leave you with lasting memories.
