Leaving your house with all of its personal touches to go on the road is strange. Each place that we are traveling to has been viewed online too many times to count to make sure it is the perfect place for us and Sunnie. But each place lacks one thing–our personal touch–family photos hanging on the wall, small displays of who we are and where we’ve been and who is important to us.

Before we left we thought about this a lot. How can we make a strange house feel like our home temporarily? We have limited space in the car for traveling so we had to think small…

One thing we decided immediately to bring is the digital frame the girls bought me for Mother’s Day. We plug it in and the slideshow of our favorite photos of family and friends immediately warms our hearts! We also brought coasters from our hometown that we used on our coffee table at home. Small touches that remind us of home.

During the last week at home we were facetiming Emma in Maui and she came up with the BEST idea! “Mom, why don’t you take the photo magnets and put them on the refrigerator in each of the houses?” Perfect! As a photographer I am obsessed with photos and over the years we have collected photo magnets of our favorite photos. Having our magnets on the refrigerator temporarily puts our stamp on each house we stay in and is a constant reminder of our favorite life memories.
